FAQ

Do I need approvals or compliance checks before website maintenance or repairs?

Most website maintenance does not require a formal permit, but approvals can still matter. Dobble may need authorised access, client sign-off for content or functional changes, and confirmation that changes meet your business, industry and legal obligations. For regulated content, privacy, payments or third-party platforms, Dobble can assist technically, but you should seek appropriate legal or compliance advice.

Most routine website maintenance and repair work does not require a government permit in the way a building project might. However, approvals and compliance checks can still be important before changes are made to a business website, especially where the work affects content, customer data, payments, email, DNS, hosting, integrations or regulated industry information.

Dobble approaches website maintenance and repairs as a technical risk-management process. Before making significant changes, the first step is usually to understand the problem, confirm the scope of work and identify which systems may be affected. This may include the website itself, hosting, domain records, email authentication, payment gateways, booking systems, CRM integrations, analytics, forms or other third-party tools.

In practical terms, the most common approvals are client approvals. Dobble may need confirmation from an authorised person before changing website content, repairing business-critical functionality, updating DNS records, adjusting email settings, removing malware, restoring backups, modifying checkout flows or making changes that could affect enquiries, sales or customer communication. This helps prevent well-intended technical work from creating operational or commercial issues.

Access approval is also important. Website repairs often require secure access to the CMS, hosting environment, domain registrar, DNS provider, email platform, analytics tools or third-party integrations. Dobble can work with existing services where practical, but access needs to be authorised by the business or the relevant account holder. For domain and DNS work, ownership remains with the registered client, while Dobble may manage records or registrations on the client’s behalf where agreed.

For larger maintenance items, Dobble may use a staging environment where appropriate so changes can be tested before being deployed live. This is particularly useful for functional repairs, layout changes, performance work, form fixes, checkout issues and technical updates that could affect user experience. Where possible, backups are taken before migration or major changes, and deployment is planned to reduce disruption. Temporary interruptions can still occur due to DNS propagation, third-party providers, internet caching or systems outside Dobble’s direct control.

Compliance considerations depend on your business, industry and website functionality. If your site collects personal information, processes payments, publishes medical, legal or financial content, uses third-party booking tools or sends transactional emails, your business may have legal, privacy, industry or platform obligations to consider. Dobble can assist with the technical implementation of website, hosting, DNS, email, security and performance changes, but it does not provide legal advice. Where compliance is material, you should seek advice from an appropriate legal, privacy or industry specialist.

Security-related repairs also need realistic expectations. Dobble provides maintenance, repairs, security audits, malware removal, monitoring and technical performance reviews, but no provider can guarantee protection against all cyber threats, software vulnerabilities, compromised credentials, third-party outages or future incidents. Dobble is responsible only for services and systems directly under its control. Issues caused by third-party providers, plugins, APIs, payment gateways, email platforms, registrars, client changes or unauthorised access may fall outside the agreed scope, although Dobble may assist where practical.

Emergency repairs may require faster approval. Dobble offers emergency support, with response times typically within 4 hours. For clients outside an SLA, emergency work is charged on an ad hoc basis, with quotes, predictions or capped timing supplied before work commences where applicable. In urgent cases, having an authorised decision-maker available can help reduce delays.

If you are unsure whether a repair needs approval or compliance review, the safest approach is to ask before work begins. Dobble can assess the technical side, explain likely impacts and recommend a practical path forward. For legal, regulatory or policy obligations, the relevant professional advice or full applicable agreements should always prevail.
