Domain name management costs depend on more than the annual registration fee. A domain is part of your business infrastructure, connecting your website, email, DNS records, SSL, third-party tools and online identity. Dobble treats domain management as a technical service because poor oversight can cause website downtime, email disruption, failed renewals and difficult recovery processes.
For clients with an active hosting, SEO or maintenance agreement, Dobble includes domain management at no additional management charge. This helps keep the domain, DNS, hosting and email environment aligned through one technical contact. For standalone domain management, pricing is based on the wholesale domain cost plus a management overhead. As an example, a domain with a $12 per year wholesale cost may be charged at $48 per year. Actual pricing varies depending on the domain extension, registrar and management requirements. All listed prices include GST unless otherwise stated.
The main cost factors include:
- Domain extension: Different extensions, such as .com.au, .com, .net.au or other specialised domains, can have different wholesale registration and renewal costs.
- Registrar and registry rules: Domain registrations and renewals are provided through accredited third-party registrars and remain subject to the relevant registry and registrar policies.
- Number of domains: A business with one primary domain is usually simpler to manage than a business with multiple brands, redirects, defensive registrations or legacy domains.
- DNS complexity: DNS records may include website records, MX records, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, verification records, redirects, SSL-related settings and third-party platform records.
- Email requirements: If email deliverability or Microsoft 365 setup is involved, the DNS configuration may need more careful planning and testing.
- Migration requirements: Moving a domain, DNS zone, website or email service requires auditing, preparation, testing and carefully coordinated DNS changes to minimise disruption.
- Audit and repair work: If a domain is fragmented across old providers, registered under an outdated account or affected by incorrect DNS records, additional diagnostic work may be required.
- Urgency: Emergency support is available, with typical response times within 4 hours. For clients outside an SLA, emergency work is charged on an ad hoc basis, with quotes, predictions or capped timing supplied before work commences.
A quote may also consider whether Dobble needs to perform a domain and DNS audit before taking over management. This is common when a domain was registered by a previous provider, former staff member, unknown registrar or disconnected account. The audit helps identify ownership details, renewal dates, DNS records, email authentication and any risks that could affect the website or email service.
Dobble manages domain registrations on the client’s behalf but does not own them. For .au domains, ownership remains with the registered client. Dobble’s role is to help manage renewals, DNS configuration, Cloudflare-based DNS infrastructure where appropriate, security features, propagation monitoring and coordination with hosting and email services.
It is also important to understand that domain and DNS systems involve third-party providers. Dobble can plan, configure and troubleshoot these services where practical, but it cannot guarantee domain availability, renewal outcomes, registrar policies, DNS propagation timing or uninterrupted third-party service availability.
If you are unsure who controls your domain, whether your DNS is configured correctly or what it would cost to consolidate management, Dobble can review the setup and provide a tailored recommendation. To get started, request a domain review.
