FAQ

Will an SEO audit disrupt our website or need access to our systems?

An SEO audit is usually diagnostic, so it should not disrupt your live website or day-to-day operations. Dobble can complete much of the review remotely using public data and technical tools. Where deeper insight is needed, we may request access to systems such as Google Search Console, analytics, hosting or CMS accounts.

An SEO audit should not normally interrupt your website, email, hosting or daily business operations. Dobble treats an SEO audit as a diagnostic review first, not as live website modification work. That means we can usually assess structure, crawlability, indexing, speed, technical SEO, content issues and search visibility without taking the site offline or changing anything on the live website.

For most businesses, the audit can be completed remotely. There is no need for someone to be physically present at an office, shopfront or home-based workplace while the review is completed. If your business operates from home, the process is still digital. We do not need to visit your premises unless a separate consultation or project arrangement specifically requires it.

The level of access required depends on the depth of the audit. Some checks can be completed using publicly available data and technical scanning tools. These may include reviewing page structure, metadata, heading hierarchy, internal linking, page speed signals, mobile usability, indexation patterns and visible content quality. However, a more complete SEO audit is often stronger when Dobble can review first-party data and technical settings.

Where appropriate, Dobble may request access to systems such as:

  • Google Search Console, to review indexing, crawl issues, search queries and manual action notices where relevant.
  • Google Analytics or other analytics platforms, to assess traffic patterns and user behaviour.
  • The website CMS, where content structure, page settings or technical configuration need to be reviewed.
  • Hosting or DNS information, if performance, redirects, crawlability or domain configuration may be affecting SEO.
  • Existing SEO reports, keyword lists or previous audit documents, if available.

Access is usually used for investigation, not immediate implementation. Dobble will not make changes to your website, hosting, DNS or other connected systems as part of an audit unless that work has been separately agreed. If the audit identifies issues that require development, hosting, DNS, content or structural changes, those recommendations can be scoped and quoted before implementation.

This approach helps reduce risk. SEO problems are often caused by multiple connected factors, including site architecture, redirects, content gaps, speed, mobile usability, indexing rules, internal links, duplicate pages, thin content or technical configuration. Making changes too quickly without diagnosis can create further issues, especially on established websites. Dobble’s preference is to understand the technical foundation first, then recommend the right sequence of improvements.

If access is required, Dobble will generally ask for the minimum level needed to complete the review. In many cases, read-only access is enough for analytics and search data. For CMS, hosting or DNS access, the appropriate permissions depend on the issue being investigated. Access levels, credentials and responsibility boundaries should always be handled carefully, particularly where third-party platforms, hosting providers, registrars, plugins or external software are involved.

There may be a small amount of client involvement during the audit. For example, you may need to approve access requests, provide background information, explain past SEO work, share target services or locations, or identify commercial priorities. This helps Dobble interpret technical findings in a business context, rather than treating the audit as a generic checklist.

An SEO audit does not guarantee rankings, traffic, enquiries or revenue. Its purpose is to identify technical, structural and content-related barriers that may be limiting search performance, then provide a practical basis for improvement. Dobble’s broader SEO philosophy is built around Search-First Strategy, Structure Before Aesthetics and realistic expectations. The audit gives you clearer visibility into what is happening and what should be prioritised next.

If you are concerned about disruption, access or who will be able to see your systems, it is best to raise this before the audit begins. Dobble can explain what access is needed, why it is needed and whether a lower-permission option is suitable. To discuss your requirements, request an SEO audit or ask a question before sharing access.
