FAQ

Will domain management changes disrupt my website or email if I run my business from home?

Dobble plans domain and DNS changes carefully to minimise disruption to your website, email and connected services. For home-based businesses, access to registrar, DNS, hosting and email accounts is important. Temporary interruptions can still occur due to DNS propagation, third-party providers or internet caching, but Dobble audits the setup and coordinates changes before cutover.

Your domain name is your digital foundation, so any change to domain management, DNS, hosting or email needs to be handled carefully. Dobble’s approach is to plan domain and DNS work in a way that reduces disruption to your website, business email and connected systems, whether you operate from an office, work remotely or run your business from home.

The main risk with domain management changes is not the domain itself, but the services connected to it. DNS records tell the internet where your website is hosted, where your email should be delivered, how SSL/TLS works and how third-party services verify your domain. Incorrect or rushed DNS changes can affect websites, email, forms, Microsoft 365, payment systems, booking tools and other business platforms.

Before making changes, Dobble typically audits the existing setup. This may include reviewing the domain registrar, DNS provider, current hosting records, email records such as MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC, SSL/TLS configuration and any third-party records that appear to be in use. Where possible, backups are taken and the new environment is prepared and tested before cutover.

Access is an important part of this process. To manage a domain properly, Dobble may need access to the current domain registrar, DNS hosting account, website hosting account, email provider and any related platforms. If your domain was set up by a former employee, old agency or unknown provider, Dobble can help review the situation and identify the likely access path, but domain registrations and renewals remain subject to the relevant registry and registrar policies.

If you run your business from home, the practical considerations are usually the same as any other business, but the impact can feel more immediate because your website, email and internet connection may all be part of your daily workflow. Dobble can coordinate DNS changes to minimise business impact, but it cannot control your home internet provider, local device caching or third-party service availability. For example, after a DNS change, some users may see the new setup sooner than others due to DNS propagation and internet caching.

Dobble manages domain registrations on the client’s behalf but does not own them. For .au domains, ownership remains with the registered client. This distinction matters because your domain should remain tied to your business, while Dobble provides the technical oversight needed to keep DNS, hosting and email aligned.

Where email is involved, Dobble primarily uses Microsoft 365 for business email hosting, although other reputable third-party providers may be used depending on client requirements. Correct DNS authentication can improve deliverability, but no provider can guarantee inbox placement, spam filtering outcomes or uninterrupted email availability. Email services are also subject to the policies and availability of the relevant third-party provider.

During a planned domain, DNS, hosting or email migration, Dobble aims to minimise downtime by auditing existing services, preparing the new environment, coordinating DNS changes carefully and testing key functions after cutover. Temporary interruptions may still occur due to DNS propagation, registrar behaviour, provider delays, internet caching or systems outside Dobble’s direct control.

For hosting, maintenance, domain and email clients, Dobble provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Emergency support is available, with typical response times within 4 hours. If you are outside an SLA, emergency work is charged on an ad hoc basis, with quotes, predictions or capped timing supplied before work begins where applicable.

If you are unsure who controls your domain or whether your DNS setup is safe to change, a domain and DNS review is a sensible first step. Dobble can assess the current setup, explain what access is needed and recommend a planned path that protects business continuity as much as practical.
